This short part-time course was initially designed for qualified
health practitioners and therapists. Its purpose is to ensure the
nutritional advice being given is safe and effective. It is however open to
anyone with an interest in the subject. It offers a basic understanding of
nutritional bio-chemistry whilst focusing on the practical use of food and
supplements to promote optimum health.
The course consists of three lecture weekends with two months of
detailed correspondence-type home study in-between each lecture weekend and
one final assignment. The course covers an array of vital nutritional
knowledge including: the therapeutic qualities of food, toxicity and
detoxification; bowel flora, dietary functions of minerals and vitamins and
their deficiency and toxicity symptoms; the use of vitamin, mineral and
herbal supplements as well as special nutrients. This course is a perfect
adjunct to any therapy and will enhance your own health as well as your
current or future practice.
Graduates of the course whom already have a recognised
CAM therapy can apply to ARCHTI for membership”
“The course is well designed and well run with excellent pre-typed notes supplied. The venue is excellent, as have been previous seminars that I have attended and the knowledge and teaching abilities of the lecturers is also first class”.

WESTERN HERBS
This
five month course runs on the same structure as the short course in
Naturopathic
Nutrition. It aims to teach basic Western Herbal Medicine to those who
are already working in healthcare. It includes information on the principles
of herbal medicine and teaches the actions of some herbs commonly used by
the general public. It does not cover all herbs commonly used by
practitioners of herbal medicine. After completing this course, students
should have enough information to confidently offer recommendations for
herbs as an adjunct to their existing practice. It will also provide
information on the interactions between certain herbs and prescription
medication. It will not provide the depth of knowledge required to achieve
full practitioner status. Although ICIM are happy to open this course to non
practitioners, a certified knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology is required.
ICIM provide a correspondence course for the Anatomy & Physiology which can
be taken up at any point throughout the year. It does need to be
completed before embarking on the herbal course.
